Wingo Street Status

The City Council in February extended the DDA's option on the houses for 180 days. Time has expired for George Banks' Paladin Properties' offer of $600,000 contingent upon Design Concept Development (DCD) rezoning. The Council has placed a 180 day moratorium on DCD rezonings. Accompanied by a ReMax agent, Banks first presented his proposal at the January meeting to preserve two of the National Registry Wingo Street Cottages, demolishing two more to make way for 12 DCD units he proposes to build in the California Mission Style. The city purchased the four historic houses for $591,500 with original intention to relocate the city maintenance shed there, but rethought the plan after residents objected to the destruction of the charming cottages on the tree shaded secondary street that runs off Main Street parallel with the rail line.

In DDA February 19, 2005 meeting minutes, the DDA elected not to advertise further until it pursues discussion with Banks and Paladin Properties. Banks has indicated he might consider placing some homeowners' garages at the back of the property adjacent to the new fire station. No garages are in the current plan.
