Movie Evening Planned March 24 at Community CenterLooking for a Saturday night of entertainment and fun with your neighbors? Mutant, one of three movies filmed in Norcross will be screened Saturday, March 24 at the Community Center located at 10 Britt Road across from City Hall. Show time is 7 p.m. Refreshments and a drawing for door prizes round out the evening. Originally released as Night Shadows, the movie was filmed in the city in 1983. Two other movies made here are J. C. and The Farmer. For each $1 donation toward start-up of a proposed Historic Norcross Museum, participants will receive a ticket for the Door Prize drawings. The 1983 B-grade sci-fi film stars Wings Houser and Bo Hopkins. Running 99 minutes, the film has an R-rating by 1983 standards. The film's era-defining low-tech campiness contributes to its entertainment. Norcross citizens attended the movie's first screening at the Log Cabin on College Street, then the City's Community Center. Many citizens remember the excitement when the movie crew came to town, and some of them got parts. Norcross becomes Goodland, a rural Southern town where strange things are happening. People are mutating and disappearing. Two big city brothers passing through on a vacation stumble upon the town's dark secret. Can the town be saved? The mystery is played out against a time capsule of pre-revitalization Norcross. Many historic homes can be seen, and a climactic battle with the zombies takes place on Mainstreet. Come join the fun! The evening is hosted by Save Historic Norcross, a not-for profit group.
