Hi All,

Here is a overview on the DDA meeting that occurred last night.  In attendance were all 7 DDA members and Johnny Lawler, Beverly Wallace-Hendrix, Marilyn Meacham, Charlie Riehm, Chuck Cimarik, Developer George Banks, Lillian Webb, Terrie Bowie, Jane Holebrook, Ann Webb, Mr. and Mrs. Levy, and Tom Day.

Doris presented the Historic Preservation Ordinance and moved to accept it and send it on to the council without the changes suggested by Peter Boyce.  Rob called for discussion and there was lengthy debate from the board and the audience.  The primary concern raised by the chair was that in a prior meeting that the DDA had agreed to closely study the ordinance as a group and call in various authorities to gather information on how the ordinance should be structured.  Finally a vote was requested and with Webb as 2nd the motion was denied 5-2.  Then Skip Nau made a motion to recommend to the Council that the document be reviewed by the architects who will be reviewing the Architectural Design Guidelines.  Also the DDA continues to support Historic Preservation and will continue to gather information.  I seconded the motion and it passed 5/2 with Day and Webb dissenting.

I informed the board about the option on the Wingo Street properties being extended 180 days.  Johnny pointed out that the DCD zoning category was under a moratorium for 180 days as well.  It was decided that the George Banks proposal should be decided on before going out for any more proposals.  Chairman Rob Buck is going to contact Mr. Banks to arrange that.

Skip gave a quick overview of the Economic Restructuring Committee.  Rob shared how Senator Thompson had contacted him about state funding for the signage program and help with the Buford Hwy Corridor

Rob, Skip, and Lauren were re-appointed as Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary/Treasurer unanimously with the appointees abstaining.

Robert Forro’s revisions on his approved COA were approved by Webb motion Antonio second 7/0 vote

Under Public Comment Tom Day recommended that the DDA or City Purchase the church property across from City Hall.  Bob Pritchard said that he had talked to the developer and that the property was no longer for sale.  Tom also commented that he would like to see more walk in retail on the property owned by the mayor on S Peachtree.  My Levy expressed that the church should be preserved as it is very historically significant and very functional.

Then the meeting was adjourned.
